Weight-Loss Tip: Upgrade Your Post-Workout Snack! Sports scientists have long advocated having a bite after exercising to help promote muscle repair. An even more compelling reason: less belly fat. Exercise activates cortisol, a stress hormone that gives you that extra surge to push until the end of spin class, says sims. But lingering in that state for too long can backfire; cortisol not only inhibits the muscle-repair process but also alters your metabolism so that your body stores more calories as fat (typically in the abdominal region) instead of burning them off. I'm 5'7 ish, 17 years old "I weigh 117 lbs is that good? My parents keep telling me I need to lose weight .
Yes, that is good. When I was 15-16 and 5’7” (only 3 cm under 5’8” now), I weighed around that (bounced between 115-118), and my body was still thin. Don’t listen to your parents. That is so rude of them to say. If you are not comfortable with your body, all you need is to eat healthier and do some exercise. That will help tone your body out nicely. There is nothing to worry about though. You are in a good, healthy weight range. Next time they tell you something like that, speak up and tell them that it’s rude and your body is perfect the way it is. read more..

fitisthenewbeautiful:The down low on FAT.Fat is ESSENTIAL to our diet as it gives us Vitamins (A, D, E, K) and contains fatty acids that our body does not produce. 30% of our diet should be fat, however there are 4 kinds of fat.The Good:Polyunsaturated Fat: tends to lower blood cholesterol levels Sources: found mostly in plant sources. (safflower, sunflower, soybean, corn, cottonseed)Monounsaturated Fat: tends to lower LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) Sources: found in both plant and animal products, such as olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, and in some plant foods such as avocadoThe bad:Saturated Fat: tends to increase blood cholesterol levels. Sources: found mostly in meat and dairy products, as well as some vegetable oils, such as coconut and palm oils (tropical oils). Butter is high in saturated fat, while margarine tends to have more unsaturated fat. Most saturated fats tend to be solid at room temperature (like butter), with the exception of tropical oils.Trans Fat: Trans fats not only raise total cholesterol levels, they also deplete good cholesterol (HDL), which helps protect against heart diseaseSources: They are man-made or processed fats, which are made from a liquid oil. When you add hydrogen to liquid vegetable oil and then add pressure, the result is a stiffer fat, like the fat found in a can of Crisco. Trans fats are also called hydrogenated fats. Check your food labels for it.It is also important to check and know how much fat your food has in it.- Did you know 1 cup of nuts has more fat than 1 big mac?!HOWEVER, nuts contain a good fat, while big macs don’t. This means I can eat as much as I want of anything with good fat right? While it’s better than eating things with bad fat, but you need to take into consideration that it still only is 30% of our diet, so eating TOO much fat, good or bad, will still cause you to pile on the pounds. The daily recommended intake is 10% saturated fat, and 20% non saturated fat. We have no need for trans fat at all! read more..

It all depends on your personal taste in healthy foods. I can give you a list of things I like because those are the only things that come to mind at the moment. I’m not too good with a variety of food that aren’t Fruits And Veggies since I eat a ton of those. The drinks that I get are almond milk, ensure nutritional drinks, cranberry-raspberry juice and orange carrot mango juice. Though, some juices have added sugar so if you can find some that doesn’t have it added, go for that one. Orange juice is really good as well, especially home made. Whole grain or whole wheat bread, beans (black or pinto not refried), wheat thins (a good snack especially in place for chips), healthy cereals, greek yogurt, peanut butter, trail mix (no or less salt), oatmeal, quinoa (can be bought in a few forms), morning start or boca patties if you are vegetarian or want to eat less meat… Things like that. Here’s a few websites with healthy foods you can pick from and write down to buy as well. "I feel amazing inside and out!"Playing softball helped keep Lincoln, Nebraska, native Shannon Moore, 31, a slim size 6 throughout high school, but her weight started to creep up after she landed an office job. Tethered to her desk, she never exercised--and she started ordering pizza or a giant burrito for lunch. "I ate whatever was most convenient," she says. "I never thought about nutrition." In 2006, Shannon wore a size 14 dress to her wedding, then tacked 25 more pounds of "love chub" onto her 5'8" frame during her first year of marriage. Before 179 lbs After 138 lbsThe Change In January 2008, Shannon's company instituted a system that used health tests to determine employees' insurance deductibles. Shannon, who was 179 pounds at that point, was looking at a steep increase in payments. "Finally," she says, "I had a reason to get fit."The Lifestyle For a week, Shannon wrote down everything she ate. "Turned out that if it wasn't takeout or fast food, my meals came from a box," she says. "And I was drinking five cans of soda a day!" She began trading processed foods for fresh fruits and veggies, learned to cook healthy versions of the greasy dishes she used to order in, and joined a gym to walk on the treadmill or use an elliptical for 30 minutes five days a week.Six months later, she was 10 pounds lighter. To accelerate her weight loss, she stopped chasing workouts with a big bowl of cereal, upped her cardio sessions to one hour, and added strength training three times a week.
