Working out in the middle of the working day

NEW YORK (Reuters) - With the three-martini lunch gone the way of the typewriter, office workers are free to discover the healthier perks of midday movement. An active lunchtime can range from the sweaty to the serene, experts say, from a full-out cardio blast to a walk in the park. "People who want to get in a good workout over lunch hour can do simple things like go for a walk," said Dr. Cedric Bryant, chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise. "Think about it. Thirty minutes on a regular basis would meet the minimum threshold for physical activity," he added. U.S. ... read more..

So you guys I have exciting news. Actually, I think I already told you that I got my license but the exciting part is that I can go to the gym whenever I want (when the car is here) and don’t have to rely on my mom to pick me up. I like to work out at night and she goes to bed around 8-9pm so now I can go while she’s asleep. Weewwwww. I need to get used to the gym quick so I don’t look like such a fool trying to pick a machine, and trying to figure out how it works lql. And I don’t think I told you guys that I’m moving (again) to a nicer area close to where I lived a bit over a year ago before moving here. The neighborhood is quiet and nice and there is cats everywhere (weeeee I LOVE cats) and I’m going to start roller blading again and probably not skateboarding again because I was never that great and won’t want to do that alone. But I will be buying a bike and will ride it around a lot. Since it’s such a nice area and it’s summer I’m going to try to go to bed early and get up earlier so I can go do these things early before it’s too hot. And I’ll spend a lot of time gardening and tending to the plans and doing yoga outside (because I’ll actually have a nice and more private yard) and I can do all of my reading outside in between the trees. I’ll take photos when I move there if anyone wants to see but I am excited about that. The escrow stuff should be done within a few days and we’ll be moving in a few weeks so I’ve got to really start packing. I only have one box of movies and books packed but I bought 6 books recently so those need to go somewhere, too haha. But yeah I’ll have lotsa activities to doooo!I should go do something productive, like pack I guess. If anyone wants to chit chat feel free to message me! Or you can add me on facebook I suppose, I am friends with internet friends on there. Just let me know if you add me, my link is in my personal blog and the link to that… I think it shows my icon in front of my icon so yeah. read more..

Breakfast Food

feelgood-andhealthy:Why You Should Eat BreakfastFood is...

feelgood-andhealthy:Why You Should Eat BreakfastFood is fuel and energy for our bodies and without it we spend the day stumbling around in a fog and fighting off a headache and a bad attitude. It increases your metabolic rate (how fast you burn calories) and kick starts your body into gear, telling it what to expect the rest of the day.If breakfast isn’t had, your body doesn’t process your next meal as quickly and tries to hold onto those nutrients. Since it didn’t get any morning fuel, it tries to hold onto the afternoon meal as long as possible — instead of burning it right away.Studies have shown that weight loss can be more difficult and weight gain more prevalent in folks who opt out on the morning meal. Those who skip breakfast have a tendency to consume more food than usual the next chance they get to grab a bite to eat and also have a higher tendency to snack on high-calorie foods to keep hunger at bay until then. You can read more on the topic from our sources WebMD. read more..

Weight Loss-Breakfast-Calorie

WHAT IS SABOTAGING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORT???...

WHAT IS SABOTAGING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS EFFORT???
>>You rush off to work on an empty stomach: Bad idea! Skipping breakfast can only sabotage your weight loss efforts. People who eat breakfast daily weigh less, those who don't eat breakfast weigh more. It's that simple. A high nutrient breakfast gets your body off to a good calorie-burning start.

>>You think 'no carbs after 6pm' is a diet mantra: There is no magic time to stop eating rice and chapatis. Just stop eating bad carbs late. Carbs aren't all bad. To lose weight, choose the right carbs instead of focusing on overall carb intake.

>>You think fat-free foods are dieter's best friend: You can't take the fat out of a fatty food and make it healthy. If you are buying a fat free cookie, the fat may be missing, but in its place you get tons of additional carbs and sugar that are attempting to make the fake food taste real.
>>You think a fat burning supplement will get you in shape faster: There are no miracle pills, potions or creams that help you incinerate fat.
>>You think the only thing that matters for weight loss is cutting calories: Not exactly. Total calories do matter, but the quality of those calories is just as important. washing down a 500 calorie cheese burger with 200 calorie cola is a far cry from eating the same number of calories in a handful of almonds, a piece of fruit, and some grilled chicken breasts. read more..

do you know of any ways I could get my hair to grow a little faster? yours is so long and beautiful but you probably didn't have to do anything for it

do you know of any ways I could get my hair to grow a little faster? yours is so long and beautiful but you probably didn't have to do anything for it

Thank you! Yes, I do know how! Actually, that’s exactly what I did. Nothing specifically. Let me tell you a story first. Up until the summer after 11th grade (2010), I used heat on my hair daily, I rarely used anything to protect it, I washed it 2-3 times a week, I rarely ate healthy. And yet, I always wondered why it grew a half an inch a year, if that. I wanted it to grow, and it never would. I actually had long hair at the start of high school and someone chopped it off, and this is the first time my hair has been so long. So anyway, It was summer break, I was growing out my shoulder length (sat on them - there’s a photo in the link below), bright red hair. I stopped using heat completely and it began to grow a bit. By the time I graduated, my hair had grown a few inches or so but was still pretty short. Then I started to eat healthy, exercise, and since my hair was getting longer, so I began to braid it before bed. Also, I never brush it while wet. You’ll read all about that in the link. I don’t explain the braiding but I do that so it doesn’t tangle in my sleep and there are no knots breaking and ripping my hair out in the morning. I have used the blow dryer a few times in the last 2 years, but haven’t touched my straightener. So since I started growing it out, it’s grown about 9 inches, and I’ve gotten it trimmed every time it needs to be. SO… That story seemed a bit unnecessary, but hopefully convincing enough to show you that simply taking care of yourself goes a long way. If you skipped it, that’s okay, it was boring. Here is the link to my original post about hair growth from last year. I will also reblog it. read more..

Vanity

Vanity Pounds - Why You Aren't Losing That Last 5-10

fitvillains:Vanity Pounds: The last 5-20lbs you want to lose, NOT because your body’s unhealthy, but because you want to look a certain way.Health & Vanity are two different things. I’m not judging you for your vanity pounds, I don’t like mine either. But they are NOT to be confused with healthy pounds or healthy weight loss. The problem with vanity pounds: everyone’s body is healthy at a certain point (mine is healthy within 10-15lbs+ of where I am, and within 5lbs-). The body LIKES being there. It’s not stressed about where it’s energy is coming from, it’s getting exercise, nutrients, sleep, love and it’s happy, happy, happy.BUT… if it feels threatened with unhealthy behaviors (eating too little, ahem, -1000 calorie eaters or exercising too much (making too big of a deficit), it will enter starvation mode and start to release hormones, cortisol and other bo-chemistry weapons to preserve the energy and SAVE itself from YOU. It is possible to lose those vanity pounds... but you need to do it healthily. Your body needs to feel nice & taken care of so that it doesn’t MIND losing an extra 5 or 10. If it’s not FREAKED OUT that you’re trying to starve it, it doesn’t release those hormones or signal your metabolism to slow down. It knows it’s okay. Those last 5-10lbs will take longer to lose, so relax & give yourself time to get there, okay? You already know how the story goes the other way, don’t you? Gain, lose, gain, lose, gain, lose….This is how body love works for weight loss: You love your body. It loves you back. You HATE your body? Well, it will fight you with everything it’s got. And guess what? In the end, your body will WIN. It’s one tough mother f*cker. So, those of you who are having trouble with those last 5-10lbs: relax. Slow down. Eat well & amp up your exercise INTENSITY, but don’t exercise MORE. Lowering your calories too drastically, or exercising too much (more than 5-6 days/week for an hour): this will break down your body, not give you enough recovery time, release hormones and NOT get you where you wanna go. Add strength training for tone & muscle, don’t overdo your cardio and make sure your body KNOWS it doesn’t need to fight back.Cool?- Chichi Kix read more..

Natural Hair-Hair Growth

Hair growth - The natural way.

deidreelliott:I’ve already talked about makeup and skin care, now lets talk about hair care.     I used to have troubles with trying to grow my hair out. It hardly grew half an inch in one year. I used to dye it often, I used heat on it every day, and I wasn’t all that healthy. (Remember, your health isn’t determined by your doctors say-so. They’re not there to tell you that you don’t exercise enough or eat a balanced diet, they’re just there to make sure that nothing is more seriously wrong with you.) Everything about my hair changed during the summer of 2010. I left 11th grade with shoulder length, bright red hair, and started 12th grade with brown (my natural color, though dyed to rid of the red), healthy, natural hair. My hair has grown a tremendous amount since then - even in the last few months alone. I was nowhere near as healthy as I am now a year ago.      Someone once asked me how long it took me to grow my hair. Though there might have been a miscommunication between the anon and I as far as what hair they saw (my real hair or my extensions), the relevance still stands. Not only am I growing my hair out, but I’m trying to keep it healthy. When I say I don’t use heat on my hair, I mean it. Not for prom, not for pictures, and definitely not for my high school graduation. My hair and skin health is just as important as my physical and mental health.      Here are some ways to keep your hair healthy and growing. Remember, the healthier you are and the better you take care of your hair, the faster it will grow.

  • Health: Diet and Exercise. You are what you eat, right? So in order to maintain healthy hair, healthy skin, and a healthy body inside and out, you need to eat healthy. Cardiovascular exercise will get the blood pumping and send more blood and oxygen to your hair follicles.
- Vitamin A: Lengthens and strengthens hair. Carrots, spinach, melons, papayas, mangoes and tomatoes. - Vitamin B: Not getting enough vitamin B is the most significant cause for poor Hair Growth and hair loss. Experts advise taking a supplement daily for 3 months.- Vitamin E: Anti oxidant that fights free radical damage and enhances hair growth. Nuts and whole cereals.- Biotin: You can either get this by eating meat, eggs, and poultry, or taking it in vitamin form.
  • Get your hair trimmed. Get your hair trimmed when you have dead ends. More energy is spent repairing dead ends than on growing your hair.
  • Heat damage. Limit exposure to hot sun, curling irons, straighteners, hair dryers, and very hot water. Hot water isn’t good for your skin anyways, so take warm showers instead.
  • Hair dyes. Coloring your hair is damaging, especially if you’re stripping the color out (bleach). Check out this website about organic hair dyes and hair dye advice.
  • Hair bands. Pulling your hair too tightly and putting the hair band in too tightly can damage your hair. You know that headache you get when your hair is in a ponytail? That is bad. You’re stretching your hair and basically pulling it right out of your head. You can safely wear your hair up sometimes, but too often will be damaging. Try using hair scrunchies or clips if you need to put your hair up.
  • Washing your hair. I don’t even do this correctly. Don’t wash your hair too often, but wash it enough. It is ideal to wash your hair every other day. Don’t let the oils in your hair take over (which I used to do), and don’t let the shampoo destroy the oils by washing too often (which I do).  A good conditioner is also important. Try using Mane ‘n Tail. It’s a horse shampoo, but it’s good for hair growth and strength.
  • Brushing your hair. Don’t brush your hair while its wet. It doesn’t have any elasticity while its wet and it will stretch, thin, and break. Brush it when it dries. Brushing your hair often enough is good, its sort of like massaging your scalp and encouraging your hair to grow. However, I also read that it’s bad to brush t read more..

Bicycle Crunches-Ab Workouts

Submission question:

“Hello, I follow your blog since weeks now, and it helps me a lot, so I wanted to thank you for that.I also wanted to ask you : how many abs should I do everyday to burn my fat in a month? the most I do the better, I know, but I wanted an idea… 10 minutes…500 abs…? thank you :)(and I know it won’t be perfect in a month, but I can try)”Hello! Of course, I’m glad to hear that it helps (: Just doing ab workouts won’t get you where you want to be. The way you eat matters a ton. An overall healthy lifestyle, really, is where you want to be. I’m sure you want abs for the summer, so here is my advice to you.Eat a mostly healthy diet, if you don’t already. Plenty of fruits and veggies, plenty of healthy fats and lean protein, plenty of water and it is okay to treat yourself, so have chocolate or a slice of cake if you please. I have healthy eating tips in the FAQ>Healthy eating for beginners. Second, your workout. Cardio + strength. Try warming up with cardio for 15-20 minutes. 10 if you’d like. It’s all up to you. Run, jog, bike, roller blade, swim, jump rope. For strength, your focus is your abs so always switch up your ab routine, and do a lot but not too many. If you don’t push your body, you won’t make improvements. The more you do push your body, the more progress that you make overall. Try doing 15-20 minutes, and if you don’t feel good about it, try another 10. Do a plank/forearm plank for as long as you can, bicycle crunches, reverse bicycle crunches, basic crunches, elevated crunches (I like to lay on my bed with legs down and my upper back sticking off enough for it to give me a workout, and do crunches that way), crunches with your legs up against a wall or on a chair, leg lifts (full or just a couple of inches to a foot off of the ground), Russian crunches, etc. I have ab workouts in the Index>workouts so you might find some good stuff in there! I also like hoola hooping because your core muscles are contracting as you move around and it’s fun. read more..
